Scazma

Located in Siem Reap, Cambodia, close to Angkhor Wat, Phum Baitang was elected as the best design resort in ASIA (https://www.sleepermagazine.com/asia-hotel-design-awards-2016-winners)

Scazma started the project from an empty land of 8 hectares and lead the complete development process until its inauguration.

When we imagine Cambodia, when looking at its history. Once we permeate its traditions, we can visualize some items closely related to the country. These items include the temples of yesterday, the remains of the Khmer Empire built with local stones, and in the countryside, many small villages and hamlets in stilt houses, the structure of which has not changed in centuries.

During the design of Phum Baitang and during the 2 years of construction (April 2013 to June 2015), we have always respected the elements of tradition and natural materials, often allowing local artisans to offer us their knowledge. We let them work with their tools in order to guide them to optimize the finishes and improve solidity of constructions. 

The willingness to respect local methods required a lot of development 'in situ', where furniture, shelves, and other creations took shape thanks to the material and adjustments done on-site rather than by executing more sophisticated designs or drawings. It is this mixture that undoubtedly resulted in what can be seen today. Everything is simple, yet each detail has its own history and sense of sophistication.

Phum Baitang is a discrete luxury hotel that surrounds you in nature, local culture, and Khmer traditions in terms of architecture, styles, colors, and objects.

All of our efforts and passion were recognized when the resort was awarded best Asia Hotel design of the year in 2016.
